Arizona Appeals Court Resurrects Decades-Old Sexual Abuse Case Against Juvenile Corrections Guard

The Arizona Court of Appeals has revived a lawsuit filed by an incarcerated man who alleges he was sexually abused while in the juvenile correction system. Glen Boyd, now an adult, claims he was abused as a teenager by a guard and pressured into silence by other employees. His case, which also includes claims of state negligence, falls within a legal window allowing such claims to be pursued after turning 30. Boyd’s attorney, Alex Egbert, stated that the court’s decision aligns with the Legislature’s intent to give victims of sexual abuse as minors a meaningful opportunity to seek justice. Despite Boyd reporting the abuse years ago, he only learned of the guard’s arrest in 2021. The guard did not respond to Boyd’s appeal, leading the judges to consider it an admission that the trial court erred in dismissing his claim against her.
